Sunny’s Story: The Mustang Who Inspired a Mission

Updated: Aug 17

The Story Behind Unbridled Wild Connections.

Every vision has a spark. For Unbridled Wild Connections, that spark was Sunny—a once-wild mustang from Nevada’s Fish Creek herd.

When Sunny first came into our founder’s life, he carried the wisdom of the wild and the resilience of survival. Having lived untamed for the first five years of his life, he understood instinct, awareness, and trust in ways most domestic horses do not. Through liberty work—no ropes, no force, just presence and choice—Sunny revealed something profound: healing happens through connection.

At first, he was cautious and uncertain, mirroring the wariness that often comes after hardship. But with patience and consistency, his fear began to give way to trust. Step by step, he chose relationship over retreat, showing that freedom and safety can coexist. In time, Sunny demonstrated that confidence doesn’t come from control, but from choice—and that authentic connection is the foundation of healing.

These lessons became the heartbeat of Unbridled Wild Connections. Just as Sunny learned to trust again, our mission is to create a space where women and girls—and, in time, others who have faced adversity—can experience that same transformation. By engaging with horses at liberty, participants discover that they, too, can regulate survival responses, rebuild trust, and grow into their unbridled confidence.

Sunny’s story is more than inspiration. It is a living example of resilience, courage, and renewal. And his journey continues to remind us that when given time, choice, and compassion, healing is possible—for all of us.

This is why Unbridled Wild Connections exists: to carry forward the wisdom of the wild and open the door to unbridled strength, confidence, and connection.
