Building Trust Before Growth

When I founded Unbridled Wild Connections in 2025, the vision was never simply to create programs or fill a calendar with events. I wanted to build something intentional: a place where women and girls who have experienced trauma or adversity could slow down, feel safe, rebuild confidence, and discover what becomes possible through an honest connection with horses.

A place rooted in trust, safety, relationship, and the quiet transformation that can happen when neither horses nor humans are forced, rushed, or overlooked.

This first year has largely been about the work most people never see.

Throughout 2025 and into 2026, our focus has remained on building a safe, sustainable, and responsible foundation before launching formal participant programming. Much of that work has happened behind the scenes through governance, safety planning, facility improvements, fundraising systems, curriculum development, community relationships, and countless thoughtful decisions about how this organization should grow.

Before we welcome participants into this work, there must be a foundation strong enough to support them. The people and horses we hope to serve deserve that level of care.

In many ways, the organization itself has mirrored the principles wild mustangs teach us so well:

Trust cannot be rushed. Safety must come before growth. Relationship matters more than control. Progress happens through consistency, patience, and presence.

The philosophy behind Unbridled Wild Connections began long before the nonprofit paperwork. It began with a once-wild mustang named Sunny.

built slowly and authentically. He reminded me that healing, confidence, and connection are not created through pressure or domination. They grow through relationship, communication, patience, and mutual respect.

At liberty, Sunny has the freedom to respond honestly. He can choose to stay, engage, or walk away. That freedom makes connection meaningful because it cannot be demanded—it must be earned.

His journey from a wild mustang to a willing partner continues to shape how we approach both horses and humans within this organization.

Over the past year, that foundation has steadily begun to take shape. We received our 501(c)(3) status, established organizational systems and board governance, launched our website and community outreach efforts, developed our initial curriculum framework, sought guidance from equine-assisted learning professionals, hosted educational experiences, strengthened our facilities and safety planning, and welcomed two additional wild mustangs to the ranch.

Each of these milestones represents an important step forward. Together, they tell a much larger story: Unbridled Wild Connections is becoming more than an idea. It is becoming an organization prepared to serve with care.

We are deeply grateful for the people who have chosen to believe in this mission during its earliest stages. Every volunteer, donor, supporter, professional collaborator, and community member has helped make this foundation possible.

Whether you have contributed financially, shared your expertise, helped at the ranch, encouraged us, or simply told someone else about our work, your belief in this vision matters more than you may realize.

As we move into our next phase, our commitment remains the same: to grow intentionally, responsibly, and relationally.

Our two newly adopted mustangs are now beginning their own trust-building journeys. Curriculum and pilot programming continue to develop, community relationships are expanding, and we are preparing for the thoughtful launch of the work we have spent this first year building toward.

We are excited for what lies ahead, but we remain grounded in the values that brought Unbridled Wild Connections to life in the first place.
